The Best Patios in and Around Toronto's Garden District

Patios are an essential part of summertime living, especially in Toronto.

The Garden District is no exception. This downtown Toronto neighbourhood is filled with great patios that are frequented by theatre-goers, students, shopaholics, tourists and, of course, local residents.

If you're lucky enough to live in our luxurious building Velocity at the Square, or in our brand new student residence Campus Common, and are looking for great patios right in the neighbourhood, then look no further. These are the best patios in and around Toronto's Garden District.

Hair Of The Dog

This intimate pub is a neighbourhood institution. The establishment and the building have a long history, though Hair Of The Dog is most famed for constantly being voted as one of the best patios in the city. It's a hot spot for weekend brunches and after work drinks, and it's not hard to see why. Although it currently faces a construction zone, the patio is hidden away by a fence and greenery, with climbing vines and plants hanging everywhere, creating an oasis right at the corner of Church and Wood Street.

The Queen & Beaver

The Queen & Beaver offers not one, but two gorgeous patios! Mimicking a traditional British Pub, when sitting in the Queen & Beaver you may actually feel as if you're in London, despite the fact that you'll be overlooking Elm Street while you enjoy a beverage on the upper patio. You can also people-watch from the street-front patio while indulging on Sticky Toffee Pudding or classic Fish & Chips.

Betty's

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of King Street, Betty's patio is a small, but laid back spot that makes you feel like you're in someone's backyard. It's completely fenced in and shaded by lovely honey locust, creating an intimate nook that is especially fabulous for enjoying brunch on a summer day. Betty's patio is also open late into the night, so you can chow down a plate of nachos with a cold beer in hand under the stars.

Imperial Pub

Another neighbourhood institution, Imperial Pub doesn't look like much from the outside, but head to its rooftop garden and you're in for a treat. This local hangout offers a cool, but low-key vibe, complete with plastic chairs and metal tables to make you feel as if you're in your very own garden. It's hidden away from the masses, making it a good spot for an afternoon drink.
